FAQs

How can I find a specific Bible passage or explore a topic?

There is a versatile Search facility on the Home page and also on the Watch or Listen page. This facility has two options.

Firstly, you can type a keyword or phrase into the search bar. Word Online will find episodes that have been tagged with that word, or episodes with that word in the title. You will see a list of episodes to choose from.

Alternatively, you can click on 'search by tags here' to the right of the search bar. This will give you a comprehensive list of tagged keywords. Click on one, and a list of available episodes will be presented to you.

Note that phrases typed into the Search bar treat each word separately. For example, typing Good Samaritan will find the episode you are looking for from Luke chapter 10. It will also locate, among others, the Samaritan woman in John chapter 4 and the Good Shepherd in John chapter 10.

What resources are you providing?

We provide passage by passage studies covering complete books of the New Testament.

Each collection, usually a whole book, is divided into a number of Series. Each Series has a number of individual Episodes.

Each Episode, around 30 minutes in length, is a study on a selected passage with the following features:

  • teaching on the passage in both audio and video format
  • for the video format, captions can be turned on or off
  • a transcript can be followed, alongside watching or listening
  • a study guide contains questions that prompt you to reflect on the teaching, these are great for group study as well as for individual use

Word Online aims to be comprehensive, in that every passage is covered. The teaching does not skip over any part of the text. Of course, in the Life of Jesus collection, based on the gospels, some of Jesus' teaching and parables are the same or similar in different gospels - these are usually covered only once.

As described above, Word Online gives you a comprehensive online library. You can choose to work through a whole book of the Bible (a Collection). Or, by picking out a particular Episode or Series, within a book that you want to study.

Word Online Series are especially suited to group study.  They are typically between 6 and 12 episodes long, meaning that it is straightforward to plan over a two or three month period.

How do I enable video subtitles or captions?

Video versions of Word Online have captions in English, and in some cases will have subtitles in other languages as well.

On your laptop:
The video player has a toolbar that appears when you move the mouse over the player. Towards the right hand side is a box labelled CC, which is for subtitles (or closed captions).  Select the language option you want, or click Off to remove the captions.

While you are playing a video on your mobile, you need to open the video player toolbar, see the image below.
This is either available by double tapping the screen while the video is playing, or by tapping once and using the arrow icon to access it.
You should see something similar to the following:
