Paul had had many dramatic events and experiences in his life but trusted God to control every part of his life. The church is praised for its generosity to Paul and God’s mission.

Paul addresses an argument between two women in the church and encourages them to resolve the issue. Worship is highlighted. He mentions the need to meet conflict and anxiety with prayer.

Paul explains his motivation for living the Christian life and the calling he has - even in his old age. He uses the imagery of citizenship which was important in the Roman world.

After encouraging the church to rejoice, Paul warns against the ‘Judaizers’ who want to add rules and regulations from the Old Testament to salvation.

Paul particularly mentions Timothy and Epaphroditus among his team of workers. They had important supporting roles for his ministry.

Early Church worship is explained. The need to live out the Christian life every day is encouraged, including being ‘blameless’ and not arguing.

This passage is known as the “Philippian Hymn'. Paul urges the believers to think about Jesus and to copy his example of humility and love.

Despite being under house arrest in Rome, Paul is convinced that God was using that situation to advance the gospel.

The church in Philippi was founded by Paul and he had a good relationship with them. They had helped him and he is thankful for them.

The leadership of a church is very important. It includes apostles, pastors and teachers, evangelists and prophets. All are under the authority of the original Apostles through Scripture.
