Opposition to Paul in Jerusalem

Crisis - the Council of Jerusalem

Establishing and strengthening churches

From Derbe, Paul and Barnabas revisited the churches they had planted in Lystra, Iconium and Antioch in Pisidia. They went in person, taught the disciples, gave prophetic insight and established leadership teams. They returned to their sending church - Antioch in Syria - and reported back and rested.

Church planting in action

Paul and Barnabas visit two different cities. Iconium has a synagogue and Paul uses the Old Testament to introduce Jesus. Lystra does not have a synagogue but is under the cultural influence of the Roman and Greek gods which Paul compares to the true God who sent Jesus. There are mixed responses with persecution from some of the Jews.

Paul’s message in Pisidian Antioch

From Cyprus, Paul and Barnabas went to Pisidian Antioch to the synagogue where Paul was invited to preach. He started with the Jewish scriptures and went on to explain that Jesus fulfilled the Messianic promises. Gentiles were also present. There was a division amongst the Jews but a church was established.
