Paul uses strong language to condemn anything that takes away from the power of the gospel which comes from faith in the cross of Jesus Christ alone. He uses the imagery of running a race and baking bread to make his points.

Paul appeals to the Galatians not to follow the zealous Jewish teachers. He reminds them of their care and honour for him when he was with them even though he was ill. Paul uses the Old testament story of Ishmael and Isaac to illustrate that the Galatians belonged to the new covenant, not the old.

Paul uses several stories form the Old Testament to illustrate God’s choices which divided the nation right from the beginning. God chooses to show mercy to some and also chooses who to use for his purposes.

Paul explains how Abraham is an example of faith for every believer, Jew or Gentile. Justification is by faith is not just a beginning but a continuing process that goes on through life. Circumcision is a symbol - it does not save.

Jesus shows that children are important in the Kingdom and includes them in the same way he includes others on the fringes of society. Adults can learn from children.

The start of another discourse in Matthew's Gospel, teaching about the Kingdom of God. Jesus draws out lessons from a child he uses as an example.

The nine remaining disciples fail to heal a boy in the face of opposition. Jesus heals the boy, rewarding the father's faith. Faith has to grow and regular prayer brings power.

Jairus and a woman are from different social standings but both need Jesus and overcome fear, emotion and cynicism. They show faith and humility and are rewarded by healings.

Jesus returns to Cana in Galilee. A Jewish royal official seeks him out and asks for healing for his son. The first of many healing miracles. Faith in terms of earnestness and persistence is encouraged.

Jesus is taken to Jerusalem at Passover but goes missing on the return journey. His parents re-trace their steps to the Temple where he is conversing with spiritual leaders. He shows an awareness of his true identity and his knowledge of the Scriptures. He is obedient and grows up in the family.
