Paul introduces the reality of spiritual warfare that every Christian faces together with the resources that God provides to fight against the enemy. Roman soldiers are guarding him and he uses their armour to explain these resources.

Paul explains that salvation means that God’s Holy Spirit comes into your life bringing the same power that raised Jesus from the dead and placed him at the right hand of the Father with all that that implies.

Paul prays that the Ephesians will know how wide, how long, how high and how deep God’s love is so that they can be strengthened in their faith and understanding of God.

Paul believed that many Christians did not live their new life fully in the power of the Holy Spirit. As Christians, we are obliged to please God. a radical change has been made in that now we are God’s children and can call him, Our Father. We are adopted into God’s family and are joint heirs with Jesus.

Background detail of the city of Rome and historical influences on the church are given. Paul is shown to be a man of prayer. He wanted to go to Rome to impart spiritual gifts, share fellowship and encourage their evangelism.

Paul challenges the idea that there are some good, and some bad, people. He addresses those who judge others and says they are hypocrites. God will not judge people according to what they have done but rather the righteousness that comes by faith.

After receiving a kind welcome in Malta there is an openness to the Gospel which comes about by miracles of healing.

Paul is transported to Rome by ship but in adverse weather conditions. On changing ships, it was decided to keep going. A storm hits the ship and eventually it is wrecked but all the people safely land on Malta - just as God had promised Paul.

Paul and his companions met with James and other leaders of the church in Jerusalem. Paul was asked to perform a Jewish ritual to please those Jewish Christians who followed Jewish laws. In the Temple, Jews from Asia Minor stirred up a riot against Paul in which Roman soldiers intervened.
