Peter comes to visit the church in Antioch and then surprisingly stops eating meals with Gentiles, as if he is still trying to obey the Old Testament Jewish food laws which kept the Jews separate from the Gentiles. Paul challenges Peter to change his behaviour because the law of Moses is no longer in operation and the Gospel unites Jews and Gentiles

Paul, and his team, spend a long time in Ephesus. He speaks to the synagogue but then holds discussions with others in an educational setting. The gospel spreads out from Ephesus as people experience miracles and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus demonstrates the need for servant leadership in the community he is establishing - the Church.  He predicts his betrayal by someone close to him - much like what happened to King David.

The rich young ruler wanted to please God by following religious rules. Jesus shocked him by telling him to give away his wealth and follow him. He was not willing but for those who do - there will be reward in heaven.

A disciple asks Jesus to teach them to pray and he reiterates much of what he said on the Sermon on the Mount.

The start of another discourse in Matthew's Gospel, teaching about the Kingdom of God. Jesus draws out lessons from a child he uses as an example.

Jesus challenges the man-made laws of ritual cleansing and explains that outer religious observance is not as important as heart attitudes.

Prayer is a private communication with God as Father. Jesus gives the Lord's Prayer as a template - not a formula. God will reward these prayers.

Fasting is discussed with reference to the Old Testament, traditions and present day. Jesus uses images of new and old cloth, and wine skin, to show change from Judaism to Christianity.

Nicodemus, a Pharisee, seeks out Jesus. Jesus explains salvation as being born again. True Christianity is not about keeping rules but a change within.  Belief in Jesus involves trusting him. God gives eternal life through his mercy.
