Paul is aware of tensions between the Jewish Christians and the Gentile Christians in the church in Rome and some of the Gentiles questioning the importance of the Jews at that time. Paul explains the Jewish historical heritage which remains important. Jesus, the Messiah was a Jew and Paul himself.

Paul challenges the idea that there are some good, and some bad, people. He addresses those who judge others and says they are hypocrites. God will not judge people according to what they have done but rather the righteousness that comes by faith.

In Caesarea, Paul is imprisoned. The High Priest, Tertullus and other Jews come to accuse in the legal court. Paul defends himself. Felix the Governor, hesitates to make a decision and Paul is kept in prison for two years.

The story of Paul in Jerusalem is continued. Paul is allowed to address the crowd and tells the story of his conversion. The crowd listens and then rise up against him. The Romans imprison him and threaten punishment until Paul claims his Roman citizenship.

Paul and his companions met with James and other leaders of the church in Jerusalem. Paul was asked to perform a Jewish ritual to please those Jewish Christians who followed Jewish laws. In the Temple, Jews from Asia Minor stirred up a riot against Paul in which Roman soldiers intervened.

A remarkable healing miracle takes place in the Temple courts. Peter uses the opportunity of preaching to the crowd about Jesus and how through him the fulfilment of the Abrahamic covenant to bless all nations of the earth is made possible.

Sadducees, who did not believe in the afterlife, tried to trick Jesus with a hypothetical question. Using the Old Testament, Jesus responded and taught about the afterlife.

Continuing in the dialogue with the religious leaders Jesus tells this parable to show that the Kingdom of God will be taken away from the Jews and others will enter. Jesus is the cornerstone they rejected.

After events in Bethany and Jericho, Jesus orchestrates his provocative entry into Jerusalem. He weeps for Israel and the judgement to come.

Jesus uses two extremes in the Jewish religious culture to teach that God does not show mercy according to the works of the self-righteous but to the repentant heart of the sinner.
