Paul outlines his conversion experience and his calling from Jesus himself. This is to demonstrate his authority to preach the gospel. He explains his visit to the Apostles in Jerusalem and how they supported him in his ministry to the Gentiles.

Paul gives further teaching about food and hospitality in the Christian community. These are secondary issues but the Kingdom of God is about righteousness, peace and joy.

The story of Paul in Jerusalem is continued. Paul is allowed to address the crowd and tells the story of his conversion. The crowd listens and then rise up against him. The Romans imprison him and threaten punishment until Paul claims his Roman citizenship.

On his return to Jerusalem, Peter had to defend what had happened in Caesarea to the believers. He did this by recounting the event and explaining that God's Holy Spirit had come on the Gentiles, too.

Cornelius, a Roman centurion, and his household are the first Gentiles to become Christians, having their own experience of the Holy Spirit blessing them and being baptised. Peter has to break away from Jewish traditions in order to follow God's leading.

Jesus condemns the religious leaders as hypocrites, stating seven condemnations, and predicting judgement on them and Israel. The widow in Luke's Gospel contrasts this showing the right Kingdom attitude.

The Pharisees and Herodians try to trick Jesus by asking about paying taxes. Jesus replies 'Give Caesar what is Caesar's and God what is God's, clearly defining a difference between Church and State.

The rich young ruler wanted to please God by following religious rules. Jesus shocked him by telling him to give away his wealth and follow him. He was not willing but for those who do - there will be reward in heaven.

Jesus responds to two questions about divorce. He points to the creation of man and woman and does not uphold easy divorce. He sets a high standard of marriage for his disciples and supports singleness as an option.

Jesus uses two extremes in the Jewish religious culture to teach that God does not show mercy according to the works of the self-righteous but to the repentant heart of the sinner.
